2019 Trondheim, Norway
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Stone Festival and 150 years of Nidaros Cathedral, stonemasons came together in Trondheim. Using local soapstone, they focused on two themes: “Games” and designing pieces for the central City Square.
A double anniversary
From June 21 to 23, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Stone Festival and the 150th anniversary of Trondheim Cathedral, participants could choose between two different themes when registering. The first, the traditional festival theme for 2019, was “Games,” while the second involved creating an object intended for the design of Trondheim’s City Square. Each participant received a 20 × 20 × 30 cm block of Norwegian soapstone, a material traditionally used in Nidaros Cathedral.
