2023 Salzburg, Austria

Around 110 stonemasons from 12 nations celebrated their craft against the impressive backdrop of Salzburg. The competition focused on the theme “103 Years of the Salzburg Festival,” resulting in unique sculptures made from St. Margarethen limestone. Another special highlight was the 125th anniversary of HTL Hallein.

On June 3rd and 4th, 2023, Kapitelplatz in Salzburg was entirely dedicated to the art of stonemasonry. Around 110 participants from 12 different nations—Austria, Germany, England, Switzerland, Italy, France, Hungary, Canada, and Peru—took the opportunity in their free time to be part of the event and celebrate their profession together in Salzburg. Numerous visitors eagerly watched the international stonemasons and sculptors at work as they carved sculptures on the theme “103 Years of the Salzburg Festival” from St. Margarethen limestone. The HTL Hallein’s Vocational School for Stone Technology and Stone Design also joined the celebration, presenting design projects as part of the Stone Festival to mark its 125th anniversary and showcasing the main focuses of its training programs.
