2011 Freiburg, Germany
European Gothic in All Its Splendor
The European Stone Festival 2011 took place from May 27 to 29 in Freiburg im Breisgau. Some 14,000 visitors were able to watch the creation of sandstone objects (40 × 40 × 15 cm) on the theme “European Gothic: Its Ornamentation, Stonemasonry, and Sculpture” in Eschholz Park.
This year, 141 participants came from 14 different countries: Germany, England, France, Indonesia, Italy, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Austria, Mexico, Norway, Hungary, Scotland, Switzerland, and Slovakia. As in previous years, the event was organized primarily by Bernward Fiedler of FWG Freiburg.
A so-called “stone path” led from the streets of Freiburg to the festival in Eschholz Park, organized by the stonemasonry and sculpture workshops of Wolfgang Jakob, Albrecht Güttler, Knut Häberle, and Thomas Vierlinger.
