At Kapitelplatz in Salzburg, 130 stonemasons from 10 countries gathered to create stunning sandstone works under the theme ‘Water and Nature,’ captivating 9,000 visitors. A festival that celebrated both creativity and environmental awareness.
Water and Nature Carved in Stone
On July 4 and 5, 2009, the EU Stone Festival took place at Kapitelplatz in Salzburg. Adolf Moser (former Regional Guild Master and Deputy National Guild Master of the Austrian Stonemasons’ Guild) was the main organizer of the festival. This year’s festival theme was “Water and Nature.”
130 stonemasonry and stone-carving apprentices, journeymen, and masters from Hungary, Italy, Germany, France, England, Malta, Croatia, Switzerland, Austria, and the Netherlands worked on their pieces in full view of 9,000 visitors, carving their objects from sandstone blocks measuring 30 × 30 × 40 cm.
